Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Combat Guide

Combat is motion, instinct, and dual pistols that still belong to Conrad Roth's ghost. This hub is the doctrine. Weapons, the skill tree, and herbs are the field manuals underneath it.

Not a cover shooter

Raul Siqueira: use acrobatics to move through arenas, dodge, and fire back. Do not wait for a perfect peek. Jason Epps: it is a modern third-person shooter with aim assist and target snapping, but the soul is still Lara in motion. Human mercenaries exist because animals cannot create cover fights. Assault rifles pin, shotguns close, snipers punish statues. Animals ask you to read lunges. Both ask you to spend Focus when the arena shrinks. Read weapons for range bands, skill tree for artifact spending, and herbs for the minute before a nest.

Enemies that think

Leopards hide. Crocodiles drown. Wolves and raptors circle, then the last one berserks. Mercenaries coordinate roles. That variety is the biggest combat addition versus 1996's wolves-and-bats loop. Dual pistols can finish the game. The other three guns exist because a sniper at 25 meters should not be a pistol sermon unless you insist. For dinosaur-specific tactics, use how to beat dinosaurs rather than this overview.

Recovery is part of style

Jeff Adams wants hits to knock Lara down and then have her back in the fight immediately. Fluid recovery is how the fantasy survives contact. If you feel stunlocked, that is a bug or a setting to report later, not the intended rhythm. Pair combat with traversal: the same cartwheel should mean something in a tomb and in a nest. That is why this remake keeps acrobatics in the gunfight, and why the traversal guide is not optional reading for shooters.

How a fight should feel in your hands

Start every encounter by naming the threat: pack, ambush predator, or squad. Packs want you to isolate. Ambush predators want you to watch the edges. Squads want you to break a pin and punish the rusher. Swap guns before the music swells if you can hear radio chatter. Spend Focus on the collapse, not on the opening shot. If you empty a magazine into a raptor and it is still coming, that is a preview complaint we logged on the preview review — use headshots and a dodge, not a reload panic in a corner. Then go back to being an archaeologist. The Lost Valley taught that order. Greece and Egypt will test whether you remember it when the architecture gets meaner.

Independent combat difficulty exists so a puzzle scholar does not have to become a cover-shooter main. Use it. The fantasy is Lara at the top of her game, not a stubbornness contest with a feathered dinosaur. When you want room-level routing, leave this hub for the Peru walkthrough or the how to play loop.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ignore every gun except pistols? +

Yes, by design. It will take more time and more Focus.

Are there human enemies? +

Yes. Natla's mercenaries add cover, roles, and a story link to her faction.

Is stealth a system? +

Not as a Survivor-style hunted loop. Motion and initiative are the pitch.

Does combat have its own difficulty slider? +

Yes. It can be split from puzzles and traversal.
