Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Preview Review
There is no review score yet because there is no game you can finish. There is a Lost Valley hour that journalists keep describing with the same adjectives: old-school, modern, floaty, stylish, occasionally bullet-spongy. This page is that consensus, with the caveats still attached.
What the hour gets right
The cog puzzle is still a cog puzzle, just a bigger room with a grapple. The refusal to waypoint the second gear is the correct personality test. Dual pistols plus cartwheels plus Focus is the first time in years a Croft gunfight has looked like a Croft gunfight instead of a stealth-archer reboot. Alix Wilton Regan's line reads — 'you're assuming I've got a bad side' — is doing the work the tank top started. If you wanted Anniversary with Unreal Engine 5 muscles, the demo is an argument in your favor.
What the hour leaves hanging
Raptors may have too much health — at least in the June hour. gamescom 2026 directors said packs now think and evade instead of soaking a straight line of bullets, and aim-down-sights gained a health reticle. Pistol-only will still be a statement run, not a casual one. Skill trees and herb brewing are already splitting fans who wanted a pure 1996 mechanical remake. Denuvo is on PC. Generative AI was used for some early exploration content, with the studio saying final assets are human-refined — a disclosure that will follow the game into comment sections whether the tombs are good or not. Greece, Egypt, and the pyramid are still slideshows. A one-hour valley plus a twenty-minute stage tape cannot prove a twelve-hour campaign. Read the gamescom report before you treat June's sponge complaint as the last word.
Who should pre-order
Pre-order if the Lost Valley footage made you want to get lost on purpose. Wait if you need a finished pyramid, a clean PC DRM story, or a skill tree you can already theorycraft. Deluxe is for the 48-hour head start and the story pack, not for a jacket. Read editions, run the spec checker, then decide. This page will become a proper review after February 12, 2027. Until then it is a preview with manners.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a Metacritic yet? +
No. Do not trust any score dated before the embargo.
Did previewers like the puzzles? +
Yes, with the note that finding the second cog could be genuinely hard without hints.
Did previewers like combat? +
Motion and Focus, yes. Enemy health and ammo feel, mixed.
Should I wait for patches? +
If you are DRM-sensitive or GPU-borderline, wait for day-one PC notes. If you are a pad-on-sofa tomb person, the demo already looks like the game you wanted.
